About Nathan Hobby
I used to be so sure what I’d like people to know about me, but I’m not anymore.
I’m the librarian for the Baptist Theological College in Perth Western Australia. (It’s soon to be renamed the Noel Vose Seminary.)

live in Perth, Western Australia with my wife Nicole. She’s an animation and cultural studies student at Curtin, has a wicked sense of humour and is very beautiful. She’s also an excellent editor and a violist.
My first novel, The Fur, was published in 2004. I’m finishing off my second, The House of Zealots.
From 2003-2007 I was part of a house church called Perth Anabaptist Fellowship. It was a huge part of my life, and now it’s over. We’ve been going to Network Vineyard Church in Swanbourne since then.
My favourite novelists are Paul Auster and Ian McEwan. My favourite theologians are John Howard Yoder and Richard Foster.
This blog is about reading, writing, film and politics from the perspective of a writer in Perth. And sometimes it'll touch on theology, too, but I have a separate blog for that -
Hiya, Nathan, thanks for the link. I’m wondering in which part of LISWA you work. I am often in there pursuing recalcitrant ancestors in the genealogical areas on the first and third floors.
Hi Archie! I’m often on third floor reference desk, but sometimes first. I’m sure I’ll run into you before too long. Your face does look familiar.
3 quick questions, that may require long answers…
what kind of a church are you hoping to plant,
whereabouts?
and why?
Cheers
Stephen Hall
Hiya Stephen,
Good to hear from you. Plans have changed - I should update this page! We were hoping to plant a house church in Nedlands, because we feel that a house church is a form of church which enables the body of Christ to work as it should. However, the last couple of months we’ve felt it’s not the right time to be doing this and we’re now getting more involved with what’s already happening at our local church.
Sorry, Wats this house church ?
